Retro vGames: The Worst DKOldies Clone

Side Note: Please do not go and attack or harass any of these people. Save your money elsewhere.

It's always no surprise that when you find a DKOldies clone, you always wonder whether or not that company is also a scam or not and yes, I have talked about DKOldies many times in 2023. I also talked about Lukie Games which is another clone but not to the severe rate as DKOldies is. Goodwill was going to be another place to talk about but it's far as to be a clone than anything else as Goodwill sells other products. Now we have a new competitor into the mix that is far worse or equally as bad as DKOldies and that is Retro vGames which is a place that sells games and consoles but much to a degree as they arrived damaged and defective, abuse the warranty and refuse to return anything.

Why Their Worse:

Overpriced Console Loophole / Abusing the Warranty:

There's not much of a history on this company but I will say that it started back in 2016 so more recent compared to the other two where they either both started in 2008 or 2009.

Literally a 42-mile drive from DKOldies to Retro vGames and vice versa.

While Lukie Games is based in Maimi, Florida, Retro vGames is based in Pennsylvania; the same state where DKOldies is located. The map screenshot (shown above) is both DKOldies (shown in Dark Fuchsia) and Retro vGames (shown in Orange) and when comparing the driving distance between locations, it's a 42-mile drive from both the locations. The reason why I decided to bring this up is that it's very sketchy and we all know that DKOldies has a bad reputation.

Anyways moving onto their website. As stated, it's a website that sells old consoles and video games and they always do sales all the time. Much like DKOldies in a way, they sell refurbished consoles at like a 50% markup. While you can add games and choose you're preferences like memory cards and carrying cases it wouldn't matter because if you were to add in all the stuff they list, you're paying triple or quadruple the price compared to the original. That alone is the biggest redflag and honestly companies like this shouldn't even do that. This isn't the 80s, 90s or even early 2000s anymore. To make things a little bit worse, the consoles they're throwing in aren't official, they're aftermarket or from third-party. Now I will say that Hyperkin is a good company for aftermarket consoles and controllers.

Then there's the warranty. Currently, Retro vGames under their Refund Policy states that "All products available for sale by Retro vGames, new or used, are covered by our 121-day free warranty" Which is such an odd number compared to the DKOldies 120-day free warranty. For the people who got a defective product, they can do a Return Request for the product and request a refund within 30 days of purchasing. Everything sounds reasonable until the reps at Retro vGames completely ignore it due to long response times and having the inability to help out with a customer. Jacob R has made a video on Retro vGames about his experience and it clearly shows that a company like this should be defunct right now.

But unfortunately, it doesn't help. When it comes to the reviews, both Trustpilot and Yelp reviews are clearly in the negatives and even has an F rating on the Better Business Bureau. Complaints involve missing or defective items as well as not issuing refund for people within the 30 days plus 121-day free warranty policyOne reviewer was told by Retro vGames to withdraw the dispute with the credit card company which is considered to be the big sign of redflags even for the items that didn't arrive. This also spawned quite a few reddit posts calling the company a scam with literally customers saying the same thing. This also prompted the Retro vGames Reddit account to go into a defense mode saying that the companies not a scam which it clearly is. Bottom line is never buy from this company. You're money is better spent elsewhere.
