Welcome back once again to another episode of Whatever Happened To; where we talk about YouTuber's that were very promising but soon fell apart for being terrible. It has been roughly a month since I last talked about a YouTuber's disappearance from the site. The last time I ever talked about a YouTuber in this series is Combat Wombat (which was posted on November 30 of this year). Now I figured I would talk about this guy today because not only is the content interesting but also the fact that him and his friends created one of the best shows of all time. For this we have Jogwheel; which is a channel that talks about movies and used to do vlog related content.
Jogwheel (created by Jonathan Paula and also owns The World According to Jon) started his channel on April 28, 2006, and uploaded his first video 6 months later on October 21, 2006, titled "Gonna Make You Sweat - Instructional Laundry Music Video." Despite the video being poorly done, it was quite entertaining to watch for a chuckle. Videos that were coming out were mostly vlog related as well as some videos of Jon doing comedic skits like 'Pac-Man Attacks!.' On July 1, 2007, Jon got together with his friend Jory Caron and created the most popular show called 'Is It A Good Idea To Microwave This.' The series was filmed by mostly Jon and Jory but a guy named Ryan Lewis joined in and not long after, Riley Mcilwain was the replacement. One of the most popular and yet most viewed video on the channel is titled "The Girl Next Door - Movie Review" posted on January 20, 2012, and sits at over 135M views.
What Happened to Them:
The Microwave Shows Retirement / Disappearance:
'Is It A Good Idea To Microwave This' was a series that was successful and completely way ahead of it's time. On June 26, 2011, Jonathan Paula announced the ending of the Microwave Show on his second channel. The reason for the shows end was to focus on other projects for the Jogwheel channel (in other words retire the show). While most people were pretty devastated about the shows end, it does make sense when you put it together. On July 18, 2011, the final episode of 'Is It A Good Idea To Microwave This' was posted to the Jogwheel channel totaling 300 episodes and 10 seasons through its 4-year initial run. My theory on the shows end was probably because of the burnout and for the trio either having family issues or other family related stuff in their lives. I'm not sure, I'm not an expert on this so don't take my word for it. They did return after episode 300 with specials you can search up here.
Even after that, Jon continued to post videos up on both his 2nd channel and Jogwheel from 2018 and 2019. After the release of his movie review on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (posted on December 20, 2019), he left YouTube. The real question is whatever happened to him? It says in his about page that he's taking a very long hiatus but the weirdest thing is that he's keeping in contact with the followers through Community Posts, Instagram and Twitter and the same goes for the rest of the crew. When it comes to his sub and view stats, he would get the spike in views but when it comes to his subscribers, he's been slowly losing them overtime due to the hiatus. While Jon's content wasn't all that great to be perfectly honest, some people are on the fence of the content being a mixbag.
