I originally made this post awhile back close to the end of October, but it was scrapped due to it being poorly written. So, this is essentially round two and were trying once again. Sorry if this post took a few days. For today's post we are talking about TanaCon, a convention that was so bad that it was on the brink of collapse. It was a big failure because people had to wait in line in the excessive heat thus being sweaty and dehydrated and also pays tribute to AceFest (though TanaCon took place in 2018 while AceFest took place in 2022) with its similarities for the most part. However, its more similar to that of FyreFest only for disaster waiting to happen. So, to give you a brief rundown.
TanaCon was created by a YouTuber named Tana Mongeau. Her channel has over 5.41M subscribers and her content seems like it has been down the clickbait route, you know just run of the mill garbage. Anyways, Tana decided to host her own Con and called it TanaCon (that's where the name comes from). The reason for this is very questionable, basically she just wanted an alternative to VidCon. The con took place in Anaheim, California and the set date was between June 22-23 of 2018. The venue she chose was at the Anaheim Marriott Suites.
What Went Wrong:
Extreme Heat / Suite Capacity / The Awful Experience:

I guess this was supposed to be the music room? |
The people who had to wait outside in the blazing heat because the hotel couldn't fit 4000 guests. Photo enhanced a bit. |
Let's start off with the most obvious one and that is the number of people who showed up at the 'Con'. The hotel wasn't ready or prepared for this as Tana's claim the hotel can hold as much as between 3000-4000 guests or attendees. That wasn't the case because the hotel staff said it can only hold about 1000. Tana really wasn't thinking this through, and this is also another reason why no one should trust YouTuber events. Anyways The Anaheim Marriott Suites was flooded with a lot of people including the outside parking lot (shown in the photos above). Since this took place in California, it gets hot, so people were getting dehydrated due to excessive heat. One other thing when Tana was setting up the Con was that she didn't have a permit, so apparently, she got away with it without getting arrested (however it wasn't needed, which I don't know why). On June 22, it ended up being cancelled and shutdown on the first day compared to the two days it was originally (June 22-23). Many people showed up just to see Tana. There was sub based activities, but the people were there just for the Meet and Greet. Two YouTuber's named PlainrockVlogs and ClassicChayce talked about their experiences at the Con. PlainrockVlogs went there to see what it's like and by God, it looked like it was poorly planned.
Aftermath / Deception:
I also forgot to say that if you wanted to get into the event, it was $65 for the 'Featured Fucking Creator' ticket and $45 for just 'General Entry' ticket. There's not much that I can say other than the Con being so damn terrible. Many people took to Twitter to discuss what was happening at the event. Tana was still constantly lying and the fact that it was all just a meet and greet all along. Security stepped in and was throwing people out the door. The Con didn't last for a single day, and I guess people went back to VidCon as if nothing happened. The worst part about the whole thing is the fact that Shane Dawson got involved in it, you know the notorious predator that's done disgusting things going back into 2010. Anyways just like FyreFest, this spawned a documentary detailing every problem that went completely wrong at TanaCon. YouTubers like PewDiePie, Spill Sesh, SunnyV2, Swell Entertainment and many others to make videos on this topic. I know some of these are much later on but it's very important.
But wait it gets worse and this is where the deception comes into being. Based on this wiki, everyone was shouting "REFUND" in the crowd and for people who bought tickets were NOT able to get a refund. This threw people in a fit of rage with one user in particular OEVO tweeting out about the refund (tweets shown above) and things related to the con. Michael Weist was I guess the organizer for the Con, but everyone had such a serious problem with him. The Con got so bad that it got picked up as a story on Dr. Phil. Many people who were there stepped up to confront Michael, claiming that they didn't get food, drinks or anything. There was also a sign of degrading and of course Michael tries to deny any wrongdoings because he's a complete and utter douchebag. Another thing is that the people who attended never got any merchandise. This also led to a series of cyberbullying. Nevertheless, it was a complete shitshow.
